Manipulation Under Anesthesia(MUA) is a treatment that's surging in popularity with chronic pain patients.  It is a non-invasive and effective treatment offered for acute and chronic conditions which include: neck pain, back pain, joint pain, muscle spasms, shortened muscles, fibrous adhesions, failed back surgery and long term pain syndrome. Manipulation Under Anesthesia is an established and widely recognized procedure that has been part of the namual medical arena for many years.

The MUA procedure uses twilight sedation (conscious sedation) to relax restrictd muscles allowing the physician to gently stretch the spine and associated joints. The effects of MUA include elimination pain producing scar tissue formations, decompresssions of bluging/herniated disks, stretching of chronically tight muscles, and eliminationf pain by improving range of motion of the spine, shoulders, pelvis and hips.

The anesthesia technique utilizes intravenous sedtion, which allows complete relaxation of the muscles. Once sedated, the patient is then safely stretched and adjusted. After the procedure the patient is taken to recovery where he/she is carelfully monitored. Recovery time is generally 15-20 minutes. Typicaly the entire time for the procedure is approximately 60 minutes.

Many insurance companies including worker's comp are recognizing MUA as a viable treatment option for their insured. Our staff will work with potential patients and therir insurace companies to determine if benefits are available for this procedure.
